“Mirror, mirror on the wall….”

May 9th, 2016

Lyn-Marie BlackmanMirrors reflect the surface image, writes Lyn-Marie Blackman, 29, a Commonwealth Correspondent from Barbados, but a valuable life reflects a deeper attitude.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who possesses the most genuine attitude of them all?

Everyday billions of people all over the world embrace or reject the imagery in their mirror. A mirror is meant to reflect an image; what image is presented depends on the individual. Many of us spend tons of money on make-up, accessories and designer labels.

However, what are we trying to project about ourselves? That we can keep up with the Kardashians, or are we embracing the fact that consumerism drives the economy?  Don’t get me wrong; I love a good Versace and Balenciaga fashion show and how they bring the fire on the runway. But I am writing about the mirror called life.

If life had to ask you about the image of you in its mirror, what would your answer be? Would it be an answer that reflects an individual who is genuine, or one who is faking it? Would it reflect an individual who is doing nothing in the world but existing, or an individual who is allowing their light to shine?

In the same way that we are passionate about the image of the fashion industry and how it mirrors the desires of the artistic expressions of the world in which we live; let us get passionate about how that mirror called life sees us.

The image we put on will always be what people see of us and accept of us in the world. Is it the image of being wrapped in vanity that your life is mirroring, or is it the image of someone who is productive and humble?

Mirror, mirror on the wall of life, what are we projecting right now? Will it help us to thrive, or end up in strife?
