Correspondence: Top tips on living a happy and productive life

March 25th, 2011

Frowns are meant for bad days, so don’t start declaring pessimism with your facial expression. Let people catch happiness from you and try to live creatively everyday, writes 23-year-old Ayodeji Morakinyo from Nigeria.

Do you sometimes get bored and find yourself idle? Looking at the clock and wishing it could tick faster?

Well, if it happens to you, be aware that you are not alone on that ship. It happens to every normal person too. But it is how you manage this feeling that is the difference. Idleness has no other alternative than to encourage useless ideas and lead you to depression.

Boredom could be worse. When you are bored, you will feel useless and void of bearing. You are not in charge of your life when you are idle and bored. Bored people always seek something or somebody else to liven up their day, so they are not in charge.

Only a life of activity can be said to have an orientation. But while it is a bad choice to remain idle, you can decide to never lose up to 20 minutes of happiness and activity by living creatively each day.

“How then can I live creatively everyday?” You may ask. Very easily. The more you know about yourself, the less you will wonder what to do. It is because people hardly know who they are or what they are good at, that they get bored and struggle with the want of ideas.

But to know yourself, you must be you and not try to be like someone else. There is a need to try out new things and watch out for where you excel, what you enjoy and what makes you feel complete. You can start your day by doing any common hobby, such as singing, listening to music and reading. It doesn’t matter what you want to do. What matters is your mood.

During the day, smile a lot. Frowns are meant for bad days, so don’t start declaring pessimism with your facial expression. Let people catch happiness from you. And make sure you plan your day before stepping out.

Picture how you want your day to go and work towards making it so. Also, make plans. This matters if your performance will be measured. Besides that, a planned day will enable you to know where to be at each interval and what to activity to do next.

Write down everything you are going to be doing each day- from morning till night. Avoid surly people. Don’t entertain gossip. But have informative and entertaining discussions with others.

Meet new people. And remember to be friendly and caring to everyone you meet. If you do all these things and more, your day is bound to be busy and productive!
