Message To Our Youths

“The future belongs to those who prepare for it today”. This powerful quote comes from Malcolm X. Many Great historians have left us with a message of hope, they have left us with a message of strength, determination and most importantly they have left us with inspiration .Their life to us is a story but the story teaches us all we need to know; it shows us that we are not alone when it comes to facing struggles, and more so shows us that we can overcome our many struggles.

Mother Teresa’s bold stand shows us that one person can make a difference while Nelson Mandela proved that no matter your past is, you can work towards a brighter future. Nelson Mandela went from prisoner to President who did exceptionally well for his country. Most often as youths we doubt ourselves and weigh our problems on a scale that leans more to the negative rather than the positive. We stress too much on our problems rather than try to find a solution. We lose hope easily because our self esteem is low or because we are too lazy to think outside the box on how to solve our problems. We expect life to be a bed of roses and when we realize that its not, we panic as imperfect beings. We will ALL make mistakes in life however it’s what you gather from that mistake that’s essential. You can either make the same mistakes over and over or put what you have leant into action.

As young people it is essential for us to tackle the many issues that affects us today before it becomes a threat tomorrow. We are young, powerful and blessed. Each one unique in their own way with a hidden talent. Why not contribute towards a better tomorrow? Why not contribute towards a better world?. You may ask “ What can I do?” Look at Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther king Jr and all these great people that have contributed positively an strongly. They were not united as a group but still they contributed independently .They are examples which prove that one person CAN make a difference.

Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change that you want to see in the world“. Instead of being a part of the group which speaks of wanting a change or wanting too see better why not be one of the person to bring about such change? Stop lusting for a change. BE THE CHANGE.

You may be waiting for the right time to make a contribution or wondering when will be the right time to begin. Well mother Teresa answers the question in this quote “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin”.

In conclusion, it is essential to note that as youths you ARE the future of tomorrow and as such decisions made today will affect you tomorrow. Issues that you refuse to solve today will become a threat tomorrow. It is important that we as youths contribute towards the development of our country so as to enable a brighter and more productive tomorrow.

What I see needed is for our Caribbean youths, is that we need to be awaken; especially our males. We need our youths to be more involved whether it be sharing their views on issues that affects us as youths or the country as a whole. Our voice must be heard. We must be more bold and courageous and speak up to secure a brighter tomorrow. Remember your fore-parents fought to secure you with a bright future and your parents fought hard during their many struggles to provide you with a bright future, it is now vital that you fight for a bright future for the children of tomorrow.
