Science and Wonders combined to unite people in the recent PETROSAINS Science Festival, organised for the first time in Malaysia by PETROSAINS.

PETROSAINS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, and together with PETRONAS, Google, and Nova Spectra was a key partner for the Festival that ran from October 22-27, 2013.

It was organised inside the PETROSAINS Science Centre and also at various areas throughout Suria KLCC. Both venues are located within the globally-known PETRONAS TwinTowers.

The Festival featured various talks, workshops, demonstrations, films screening, exhibitions and shows related to Science. Presenters included representatives from local and overseas companies and universities supporting the Festival.

Some of the key figures who were involved throughout the Festival are Dato’ Fazley Yaakub, winner of the Malaysian Edition of Celebrity MasterChef;  Malaysian Astronaut Major Dr. Faiz Khaleed;  and Dr. Graham Walker from the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science. The Centre is located at the well-known Australia National University.

On the entertainment side of the festival, there were performances throughout the event by artists including IAmNeeta, Yasin Sulaiman, and Najwa Latif.

Social media was active with comments on the week of events scheduled as part of the Festival. Tweets posted on Twitter with the event’s official hash-tag “#PetrosainsFest” spearheaded the approximately 150,000 members on Twitter across 250,000 deliveries in the festival timeframe. At the same time, the event also gained support from approximately 43,000 members on Facebook.

Other companies that partnered in organizing this Festival are Telekom Malaysia, The Star, General Electric, Boeing, Legoland Malaysia, SIRIM, KLCC, and the Malaysian Astronauts Foundation. The Festival also earned support from universities, counting Multimedia University, University of Malaya, MARA University of Technology, and SEGi College among those lending support and assistance.
