Black History Month, Worn with Pride: A Commonwealth Correspondent in Europe

Until a few months ago, Black History to me was mainly the story of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his victory of independence for Ghana.

I had always known of Black History Month celebrated in February in the USA and October in the UK, but barely acknowledged it as a remembrance for only people of African heritage in the “ Western World”.

Now, it has become of more meaning to me, after just a few weeks outside my continent. I feel more connected and understand better how phenomenal it is to be your unadulterated self in a foreign land, not just existing, but also making waves.

 In this country, Black History Month is not officially celebrated. But I decided in my small way to commemorate it by wearing a touch of Africa to lectures all month.

In line with the October 2025 Black History Month theme: “Standing Firm in Power and Pride”, here’s a spur of the moment simple but intentional  Outfit Of The Day (OOTD).
