“Youths need to know and value themselves”
September 7Developing a healthy sense of self is a necessary part of life’s journey, writes Brenda McWilson, 22, a Correspondent from Nigeria and studying in Canada, who says the first step is to avoid comparisons with others.
Some people need to embark on a journey of self-recovery and metanoia. You are a complete package and have no need to compare yourself with others.
Even when things seem difficult and you feel like quitting, just remind yourself how amazing you are and ensure equanimity. If you want to have a healthy soul, then start loving yourself completely and do or say things that put you in sophrosyne. You need to be perspicacious and obliterate mediocrity from your mental system.
Say no to comparison, because it only puts you in doldrums, causes toska and reduces your self-esteem. Learn to love yourself. Live your life uniquely and wisely. Let nobody dictate the direction of your life. Let nobody’s words validate your existence. Live, laugh and love. Do good unto others as you do to yourself. Live your life so that your footprints can be seen on the sands of time and your epitaph could read, “no regret”.
You are wonderfully and beautifully created. Everything about you: your physique, your smile, your laughter, your soul, your mind, just everything about you. You are a true definition of divine kalon. Learn to love yourself. No need to judge the chapter one of your life, based on someone’s chapter ten.
To help you reach the goal of accepting and valuing your own self, here is a checklist that can be used as a “life audit”.
Know the difference between those who come into your life to genuinely congratulate you and those who come to give treacherous adulation.
Know the difference between those who come into your life to insult you and those who come into your life to inspire you.
Know the difference between those who come to motivate you and those who come to mock you.
Know the difference between those who come into your life to enhance your skill set, and those who come to dampen your skills and potential.
Know the difference between those who come to multiply or add to your life, and those who come to subtract or divide from your life.
Know the difference between those who come to give you a push to climb further on the ladder of life, and those who came to pull you down.
Know the difference between those who want you to live a life of success, and those who just want you to impress.
Know the diffidence between those who want your life to be a message, and those who want your life to be a mess.
Know the difference between those who want the miraculous to happen in your life, and those who want the ridiculous to happen in your life.
Know the difference between those who want you to accomplish your mission on earth, and those who just want to destroy your vision.
Know your circle. Know thyself.
Life is too short to allow toxic people destroy your life and future.
Your goal is to live a purposeful life and fulfil your raison d’être. Know thyself.
