Blunkett calls for multi-million youth volunteering fund

January 13th, 2011

Former home secretary David Blunkett has called on the Treasury and Big Lottery Fund to create a multi-million pound endowment fund to increase youth volunteering.

Blunkett’s views are included in a wish list from civil society leaders published by the Social Investment Business today.

Blunkett says youth volunteering is necessary at a time when young people are facing the biggest hit in respect of jobs, maintenance allowance, student loans and the demolition of youth services.

Other sector wishes include a payment by results system that will help small and mid-sized organisations win niche business and for the sector to build corporate partnerships and bolster credibility through impact measurement.
