Commonwealth Secretariat hosts Queen’s Young Leaders
June 30The Commonwealth Secretariat welcomed the winners of the Queen’s Young Leaders Awards to Marlborough House on 26 June 2015.
These outstanding young leaders aged 18-29 from all corners of the Commonwealth are taking a lead in their communities and helping to transform the lives of others.

During their visit to the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Queen’s Young Leaders engaged with a panel of Commonwealth Secretariat staff, representatives from the Commonwealth Foundation and the Commonwealth Youth Council.
Director of the Commonwealth Foundation, Vijay Krishnarayan, said: ‘The Queen’s Young Leaders are able to see themselves playing a part in bringing Commonwealth values to reality’.
The young leaders asked the panel of Commonwealth experts questions about the Commonwealth Secretariat’s work in areas such as climate change, youth employment, gender equality as well as health and education.

The visit formed part of a programme of events organised for the young leaders, who have been taking part in a one-week residential programme throughout the United Kingdom.
The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme was launched on 9 July 2014 and is run by The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, in partnership with Comic Relief and the Royal Commonwealth Society. The programme recognises exceptional people aged 18-29, who “are taking the lead in their communities and using their skills to transform lives”.
The 60 winners were presented their Award by Her Majesty The Queen at a service on Monday 22 June at Buckingham Palace.
