Who we are

YourCommonwealth.org is a website created and crafted by young people, students and emerging youth leaders. It is a platform for the voices of young people from Commonwealth countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe and the Pacific to be heard.

What we do

Our young correspondents who are aged 15-29 exchange perspectives on events happening in their country or community or issues that affect young people around the world, such as poverty or climate change. Find out more about our current Commonwealth Correspondents and read their articles online.

The website was established by the Commonwealth Secretariat through the Commonwealth Youth Programme and is independently edited by Clare Keizer, an experienced journalist and publisher.

YourCommonwealth.org was named ‘Communicator of the Year’ in the 2012 Nexus Commonwealth Awards.

Coordinator
Chimaobi Omeye

Chimaobi Omeye is young freelance journalist and renewable energy professional. He is a graduate of the University of Nigeria and also an alumni of the Nigerian School of Politics, Policy and Governance. Chimaobi is a versatile young leader who has also served in various capacities under the Commonwealth Youth Programme such as being a member of the Communication Taskforce for the Youth Forum in Rwanda and adjudication panel for the 2022 Commonwealth Youth Awards.

Regional Lead – Asia
Sarmad Shahbaz

Sarmad Shahbaz Bhutta has been engaged with YourCommonwealth since 2018 in various capacities. He is currently a Civil Servant in Pakistan, an Op-Ed writer, a Philosophy enthusiast, and teaches Public Administration & Policy. He has wide experience in the development sector. Sarmad was awarded Emerging Youth of the Year 2022 in Pakistan by the United Nations. He can be reached at @SarmadShahbaz01 / Chaudry Sarmad Shahbaz Bhutta on Social Media.

Ewura Adwoa Larbi

Ewura Adwoa Larbi is an early career professional with great interest and versatile experience in environmental protection, advocacy and sustainability, She holds a Bsc. in Biological Sciences from the University of Ghana. 

A writer by choice, Ewura is passionate about social issues especially climate change and it’s real-time effects, particularly on the young. She believes the world has young and vibrant people for a reason; brimming with energy, who are driven and capable of achieving the claimed impossible.

Membership Lead
Sylvester Mtenga

Sylvester Mtenga is a student, digital innovator and analyst in the cybersecurity and finance space. A national of Tanzania, Sylvester enjoys writing insightful articles on stories that matter. As a HundrED Youth Ambassador, he works closely with international partners to develop innovative solutions to address climate change. He is also the host of a mental health podcast and TEDxYouth Speaker.

Partnership & Engagement Lead
Muhammed Badamasi

Muhammed Badamasi has a background in law and a passion for international development. As a correspondent, he has published pieces on several areas including energy and international trade. He was also part of the team that developed a blog series on Young people contributing towards SDG14. He has experience initiating and executing ideas, particularly within youth-led organisations. He currently works as a corporate lawyer.

Ainesh Dey

Ainesh Dey is a dedicated individual with a diverse background in political engagement, youth empowerment, and global development. Starting out as a political intern at the Borgen Project, Ainesh has honed his skills in advocacy and effective communication. His experiences with organizations such as International Justice Mission, Your Commonwealth Forum, and Youth ki Awaaz have equipped Ainesh with the ability to engage in meaningful discourse with young people on a wide range of issues. This demonstrates his broader inclination towards a blended experience of leadership and commitment.
Currently serving as a Peace Gong fellow in India, Ainesh is actively contributing to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals and showcasing his leadership skills and dynamic engagement with the youth. In addition to his advocacy work, Ainesh has showcased his writing and editing talents through contributions to publications like Defence Horizon Journal, Fair Observer, The New Global Order, and International Policy Digest. His work focuses on youth-centric international development issues in Europe and North America, adding a valuable voice to the ongoing discourse in this field.
